Gottfried vs. Havers

Grant Havers of Canada's Trinity Western University thinks Paul Gottfried is too quick to blame Leo Strauss for the global-democratic faults of (some?) of his followers. Gottried declines to recant.

I admit to having mixed feelings about this. I sincerely enjoy Gottfried and have read other criticisms of Strauss, but I also enjoyed Strauss’s works.

Being a classical liberal, I am not particularly comfortable reading Gottfried’s books and was downright amazed at his “After Liberalism”. I think there are some mistakes in his analysis which have not been identified, but haven’t taken the time to sit down with it and carefully go through it.

    Just a thought.
