Light posting here this week on account of other work. The new issue of The American Conservative goes to print today. I won't spoil it for you, but as a foretaste I'll let you know that the books department includes reviews of the latest from John Lukacs, Peter Beinart's Cold War revivalism, and a look at the new biography of Richard Hofstadter.
In the meantime, you can still find the current issue in shops, with Chilton Williamson Jr.'s superb cover story on the disappearance of intellectual indpendence in an age of partisanship and marketing. My review in that issue of Gordon S. Wood's Revolutionary Characters has got me accused by a correspondent or two of "Jeffersonian bias." I think I'll plead no contest.
