There was a great quote from George H. Nash at the Philadelphia Society dinner a month or so back — a paraphrase from another source — that I've been trying to remember. It was to the effect that every movement begins as a church, becomes a business, and ends as a scam. Nash's talk was actually quite optimistic — though the John Lukacs talk that followed made the direction that conservatism has taken abundantly clear.
